What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a medical therapy to restore the balance of your ki = qi = life force energy and promote the body's natural healing. The human body has 12 major life force energy pathways and each pathway corresponds to specific internal organs in the human body.
When these life force energy pathways are blocked or out of balance, illnesses arise. For example, if the Stomach and Spleen life force energy pathways are blocked or unbalanced, digestive problems will occur.
On the life force energy pathways, there are points called Tsubo in Japanese. Some points can be used to boost life force energy and some points are used to reduce heat, move blood, reduce pain, enhance immunity, slow aging and so on in the body.
Upon inserting needles at these points, they are activated and we are able to control the physiology of the human body.
In order to make a diagnosis, we focus on a thorough intake, and analyze the tongue coat, shape and color. In addition to these methods, we also take the pulse to determine any imbalances in the body.
Japanese Style Acupuncture
Acupuncture therapy has 3000 years of history in China and was adapted to Japanese culture about 1400 years ago during the Asuka Period (552-645 C.E.). Japanese style acupuncture is a relatively gentle therapy using small sized needles and shallow insertion.
Instead of analyzing the tongue, in Japanese Style Acupuncture, we analyze the abdomens corresponding points called Fukushin, to determine the cause of illness.
Another special aspect of the Japanese Acupuncture style is the usage of tiny moxa = okyu and its frequent use on acupuncture points to treat illness.
In modern Japan, Manaka MD developed the technique called ion pumping cord therapy which is a (+) and (-) wire attached to the needles. This facilitates the flow of the life force energy in one direction in the body.
Today in Japan, leading scientists employ medical research and various scientific studies supporting the efficiency of acupuncture therapy.
